Provides emergency financial assistance to eligible low-income customers. To find out more, click HERE.
Energy Affordability Program (EAP)
The EAP helps qualified homeowners, tenants and social and/or assisted housing providers improve their energy efficiency of their homes. To find out more, click HERE.
- The Housing Stability Bank (HSB) facilitated by Ontario Works is available for PUC customers who qualify. NOTE: Customers do not need to be an Ontario Works recipient to qualify. Please contact 705-759-2130 for more information.

What is the Ontario Energy Rebate?
On November 1, 2019, the Ontario government launched Ontario Electricity Rebate (OER), which started being applied to bills for eligible residential and small commercial customers.
Certain accounts are automatically eligible and do not need to apply.
All residential customer accounts
- All small commercial customer accounts (with a demand for electricity of 50kW or less)
- All commercial accounts that use less than 250,000 kWh of electricity per year
Who needs to apply for the rebate?
Accounts that need to complete a self-declaration form:
- Any business that is a farming business for the purposes of the Farm
- Registration and Farm Organizations Funding Act, 1993, and holds a valid registration number assigned under that Act or the consumer’s obligation to file a farming business registration form was waived pursuant to an order made under subsection 22 (6) of that Act.
- A long-term care home licensed under the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007, other than an account that is also in respect of a hospital.
- A multi-unit complex that meets all of the following conditions:

- Exceeds 50kW electricity demand AND exceeds 250,000 kWh of electricity per year.
- Contains at least two qualifying units.
- At least 50% of the units within the complex are qualifying units.
- Has completed a self-declaration form.

- *Common areas in residential multi-unit complexes now qualify
- *Retirement Residences where:
- At least 50% of the units are occupied or intended to be occupied as a permanent residence by people aged 65 or older (who are not related to the operator of the complex)
- And where at least six people aged 65 or older live.
- *Mobile Home Parks as defined in the Residential Tenancies Act, 2006
*Eligible effective July 1, 2022.

What if my business type changes and I am no longer eligible for the rebate?
You need to complete a self-declaration form to notify us of the change within 90 days of the account ceasing to be eligible.

Return the form via e-mail to customer.experience@ssmpuc.com or return it to us at PUC Services Inc., 500 Second Line East, PO Box 9000, Sault Ste. Marie, ON, P6A 6P2.
The rebate will continue until the end of the billing period in which the 90th day after the change in eligibility occurred.
