Electricity Rates

Ultra-Low Overnight (ULO) pricing plan is similar to the Time-of-Use (TOU) pricing plan as it applies different rates to your consumption based on when you use electricity. ULO however has an additional price period between 11pm to 7am charged at an ultra-low overnight rate, and a different On-Peak rate compared to TOU Pricing.

There are four ULO price periods:

• ULO Ultra-Low Overnight (Everyday 11pm to 7am): when demand for electricity is lowest on average.
• ULO Weekend Off-peak (7am to 11pm): when demand for electricity is generally lower.
• ULO Mid-peak (Weekdays 7am to 4pm and 9pm to 11pm): when demand for electricity is moderate.
• ULO On-peak (Weekdays 4pm to 9pm): when demand for electricity is highest on average.

The ULO price periods are the same in the summer as they are in the winter.

Tiered pricing provides the stability of a consistent price for electricity regardless of when it is used. With tiered pricing the cost changes based on how much electricity you use in a month, regardless of time of day or day of the week.

With residential tiered pricing, the first 600 kWh per month in the summer or first 1000 kWh per month in the winter are at a lower rate. Any electricity over that limit is charged at a higher rate. The first tier for small commercial customers is set at 750 kWh year round.

NOTE: Halton Hills Hydro calculates all rates and charges based on a 30-day month. This means that if your bill is for a longer or shorter period, you may see a different amount of electricity at Tier 1. All charges are based on actual metered electricity used.

Sample calculation:

Based on a 30 day month, the Winter threshold for Tier 1 is 33.3 kWh per day, whereas the summer threshold for Tier 1 is 20 kWh per day. If you use more electricity per day than the threshold amount, those amounts will be billed at Tier 2.
